Segregation in desiccated sessile drops of biological fluids.

It is shown here that concurrence between advection and diffusion in a drying sessile drop of a biological fluid can produce spatial redistribution of albumen and salt. The result gives an explanation for the patterns observed in the dried drops of the biological fluids.

Segregation in the Desiccated Sessile Drops of the Biological Fluids∗

The priority in the investigation of the dehydration self-organization phenomenon in biological fluids belongs to Prof. E. G. Rapis. While seeming simple, the effect turned out to be extremely complicated and to involve a number of interrelated processes of different nature. The biological fluids are complex colloidal systems. Even the slightest variation in the composition of a liquid leads to...

Relaxation of nonspherical sessile drops towards equilibrium.

We present a theoretical study related to a recent experiment on the coalescence of sessile drops. The study deals with the kinetics of relaxation towards equilibrium, under the action of surface tension, of a spheroidal drop on a flat surface. For such a nonspherical drop under partial wetting conditions, the dynamic contact angle varies along the contact line. We propose a new nonlocal approa...

Four - phase merging in sessile compound drops

We consider the statics of compound droplets made of two immiscible fluids on a rigid substrate, in the limit when gravity is dominated by capillarity. In particular, we show that the merging of four phases along a single contact line is a persistent and robust phenomenon from a mechanical and thermodynamic perspective; it can and does occur for a range of interfacial energies and droplet volum...

Quasistatic relaxation of arbitrarily shaped sessile drops.

We study a spontaneous relaxation dynamics of arbitrarily shaped liquid drops on solid surfaces in the partial wetting regime. It is assumed that the energy dissipated near the contact line is much larger than that in the bulk of the fluid. We have shown rigorously in the case of quasi-static relaxation using the standard mechanical description of dissipative system dynamics that the introducti...
